Mother and baby chilling out near the entrance to Bukit Melawati |
These fantastic monkeys can be found near the entrance to Bukit Melawati in Kuala Selangor, Malaysia. They have become quite tame and something of a local tourist attraction with near by stores selling food to feed the monkeys. They seem less aggressive than the long tailed macaques further down the road towards the nature park. Feeding macaques often alters their behaviour and makes them aggressive, and so this should be avoided.
Wild groups of the silvered langurs can be seen easily in their natural habitat in the forest within the Taman Alam Kuala Selangor Nature Park. This is an excellent place to spend a day out with a camera with plenty of opportunity for viewing the langurs, as well as plenty of other wildlife in the mangroves and secondary forest.
I could not resist getting a few shots of this mother and baby. The babies are a fantastic orange colour that is slowly replaced by dark fur as they age. This little one did not want to sit still and fidgeted and played constantly making these shots a real challenge to get. The mother had the patience of a saint and whilst watching the two of them together I was reminded just how similar to us they really are.
